Layer Shift
Also known as: Shifted Layers
When layers are misaligned, creating a staircase effect from skipped motor steps.
Layer shift occurs when the print head loses its position, causing subsequent layers to be offset from previous ones.
Causes
- Stepper motor skipping steps
- Loose belts
- Acceleration too high
- Motor current too low
- Mechanical obstruction
- Collision with print
Fixes
- Tighten belts
- Lower acceleration
- Increase motor current
- Check for obstructions
- Ensure proper cooling of stepper drivers
- Check for loose pulleys
