When layers are misaligned, creating a staircase effect from skipped motor steps.

Layer shift occurs when the print head loses its position, causing subsequent layers to be offset from previous ones.

Causes

  • Stepper motor skipping steps
  • Loose belts
  • Acceleration too high
  • Motor current too low
  • Mechanical obstruction
  • Collision with print

Fixes

  • Tighten belts
  • Lower acceleration
  • Increase motor current
  • Check for obstructions
  • Ensure proper cooling of stepper drivers
  • Check for loose pulleys
