Acceleration
Also known as: Print Acceleration
How quickly the print head speeds up and slows down during movements.
Acceleration controls how quickly the print head changes speed. Higher values mean faster prints but can cause quality issues like ringing.
Typical Values
- Conservative: 500-1000 mm/s²
- Standard: 1000-3000 mm/s²
- Fast: 3000-10000 mm/s²
- Speed printers: 10000-20000+ mm/s²
Effects
Too High
- Ringing/ghosting artifacts
- Layer shifts
- Motor skipping
Too Low
- Unnecessarily slow prints
- Doesn’t reach target speeds on short moves
Input Shaping
Modern firmware (Klipper) uses input shaping to allow very high acceleration without ringing artifacts.
