Top Layers
Also known as: Top Solid Layers, Top Shell
The solid horizontal layers that form the top surface of a print.
Top layers are the solid layers printed on top of infill to create a smooth, closed top surface.
Recommended Values
- Minimum: 3 layers
- Standard: 4-5 layers
- High quality: 6-7 layers
Why It Matters
- Too few: Pillowing, gaps, weak top
- Too many: Wasted time and material
Pillowing
Bumpy top surfaces caused by:
- Not enough top layers
- Insufficient cooling
- Infill too sparse
Fix by adding more top layers or increasing infill percentage.
