Popular build surface material with excellent adhesion when hot and easy release when cool.

PEI (Polyetherimide) is the most popular build surface for 3D printing. Parts stick well when hot and release easily when cooled.

Types

  • Smooth PEI - Glossy bottom finish
  • Textured PEI - Matte bottom finish, better release

Care

  • Clean with isopropyl alcohol
  • Avoid touching with fingers
  • Light sanding restores adhesion
  • Don’t remove parts while hot (damages PEI)

Compatibility

  • Works with PLA, PETG, ASA, ABS
  • PETG may stick TOO well (use release agent)
  • TPU needs release agent
