Over-Extrusion
Also known as: Overextrusion
When too much filament is extruded, causing blobs, rough surfaces, and dimensional issues.
Over-extrusion occurs when more filament than expected is extruded, resulting in bulging lines, blobs, and dimensional inaccuracies.
Symptoms
- Bulging/raised lines
- Rough, blobby surfaces
- Dimensional inaccuracy (too big)
- Layer stacking issues
- Nozzle dragging through previous layers
Common Causes
- Flow rate too high
- Incorrect e-steps - Over-calibrated
- Filament diameter incorrect - Set smaller than actual
- Temperature too high - More fluid = more flow
Fixes
- Calibrate e-steps properly
- Reduce flow rate (try 95%)
- Measure filament diameter
- Lower temperature slightly
- Check filament diameter in slicer
