A single-layer border printed around the base of a model to increase bed adhesion.

A brim is a flat, single-layer border printed around the base of your model. It increases the contact area with the build plate, improving adhesion and preventing warping.

When to Use a Brim

  • Small footprint models that might tip
  • Tall, thin prints prone to warping
  • Materials that warp easily (ABS, ASA)
  • Models with poor bed contact
  • First layer adhesion issues

Removal

Brims are usually easy to remove:

  1. Peel by hand if possible
  2. Use flush cutters for tough spots
  3. Light sanding or filing to clean edge

Alternative: Mouse Ears

Place small discs at corners only—less material, targeted adhesion help. Some slicers have plugins for this.
