Brim
Also known as: Brim Adhesion
A single-layer border printed around the base of a model to increase bed adhesion.
A brim is a flat, single-layer border printed around the base of your model. It increases the contact area with the build plate, improving adhesion and preventing warping.
When to Use a Brim
- Small footprint models that might tip
- Tall, thin prints prone to warping
- Materials that warp easily (ABS, ASA)
- Models with poor bed contact
- First layer adhesion issues
Brim vs. Raft vs. Skirt
| Feature | Brim | Raft | Skirt |
|---|---|---|---|
| Attached to model | Yes | Yes | No |
| Layers | 1 | Multiple | 1 |
| Material use | Low | High | Minimal |

Brim Settings
- Brim Width: Distance from model (5-10mm typical)
- Brim Line Count: Number of outlines
- Brim Only Outside: Prevents brim inside holes
Removal
Brims are usually easy to remove:
- Peel by hand if possible
- Use flush cutters for tough spots
- Light sanding or filing to clean edge
Alternative: Mouse Ears
Place small discs at corners only—less material, targeted adhesion help. Some slicers have plugins for this.
