Part Cooling
Also known as: Cooling Fan, Print Cooling
Using fans to cool printed material quickly for better quality and overhangs.
Part cooling uses fans to rapidly cool freshly extruded filament. Proper cooling improves overhangs, bridges, and fine details.
Cooling by Material
| Material | Fan Speed |
|---|---|
| PLA | 100% |
| PETG | 50-100% |
| ABS | 0-20% |
| TPU | 50-100% |
| Nylon | 0-20% |
When to Use Cooling
More Cooling
- Overhangs
- Bridges
- Fine details
- Small layers (cooling time)
Less Cooling
- ABS/ASA (warping, layer adhesion)
- First layer (adhesion)
- Large parts with long layer times
First Layer
Always disable or reduce cooling for first layer—you need adhesion, not rapid cooling.
Tips
- Upgrade to better fan ducts
- Dual fans provide more even cooling
- Some printers have adjustable fan angle
- Watch minimum layer time settings
