Cold Pull
Also known as: Atomic Pull
Technique to clean clogs by pulling filament out at low temperature.
A cold pull (or atomic pull) cleans the hotend by pulling filament out at low temperature, bringing debris with it.
How To
- Heat to normal printing temp
- Push filament through manually
- Cool to 90°C (PLA) or 160°C (Nylon)
- Pull firmly upward
- Check tip shape and color
- Repeat until clean
What to Look For
- Clean, cone-shaped tip = clean nozzle
- Dark or charred debris = carbonized filament
- Repeat until pulls are clean
Best Materials
- Nylon works best (wide temp range)
- PLA works for light cleaning
- Cleaning filament available
